What did you do this past week?

I finished my Computer Vision project and made decent progress on the website. I also hung out with a couple of friends before the break. I also accepted my internship offer so I’m done with applications for now! It’s really just been alright, in general, doing projects and keeping up with classes, but I’m ready for a break!

What’s in your way?

Projects should be finished by Monday, but what I don’t look forward to really is blinking the break away. I think I’ll probably still be studying and doing class projects over the break, but of course, I’ll still be spending time with family. I have a lot of things I want to do, and I don’t want it to be over so quickly!

What will you do next week?

Next week is Thanksgiving! I’m hoping to cook really good food that I’ve been making over the past couple of months like carbonara, omurice, and eggs benedict for my family, and finally play Kingdom Hearts 3 which I have mostly been spoiler-free from save for the fact I know the protagonists win in the end. It will be a very nice well-deserved break.

If you read it, what did you think of What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

I thought it was similar to a show I watched recently called The Help on Netflix where it was about black female servants in maybe the 60s? They would tell their unheard experiences in a book which would help to support the civil rights movement. I’ve read a number of these kinds of experiences already online, but I think it’s good to keep on reading them, as they won’t go away until society changes.

What was your experience of refactoring?

Refactoring was kind of fun! I feel like I may have done it in the past maybe like changing members of a struct in Operating Systems, but otherwise, I think it was pretty intuitive. Classes would look much neater after moving around methods and members to more appropriate locations.

What made you happy this week?

I’ve been mostly eating out instead of cooking my own food this week since I’ll be leaving soon, and in addition to that, I’ve also made pretty good eggs benedict, carbonara, and fish. I also got to see my sister briefly who is moving here from California and coming back for Thanksgiving.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

For visualizing things in projects, I think it’s useful to draw out diagrams in Microsoft Paint to show your partner or just on some paper to show on the camera on Zoom. I’m a visual learner, so it really helps me imagine the flow of code and where it executes in each class.
