CS371p Fall 2020: Jesse Huang
blog 12
What did you do this past week?
Not much, it was a lull week for cs373 and cs371p so I worked on my Computer Vision project which is almost done. I also made hot wings and ate like 30 of them and didn’t have any problems the next day which was neat.
What’s in your way?
Not much I’m feeling good and on pace! I’m ready for Thanksgiving break when I can work on projects for fun and enjoy the fall weather.
What will you do next week?
I have a small error hidden in my Computer Vision project I hope to find before turning it in on Tuesday. Otherwise, I want to get started on the other two CS projects. I will also hopefully make more delicious food for myself :).
If you read it, what did you think of THE NEW METHODOLOGY?
I thought it was an interesting idea. I wonder if that’s what’s meant when job descriptions say “agile environment”. Otherwise, the concepts were a bit abstract for me to put into my own examples, but some of the ideas I could really relate to.
What was your experience of containers, container adapters, and Life?
Containers and container adapters seemed fine enough — a bit of a review from Data Structures. Life seems really fun though. The project itself seems very design-heavy, as all there is to write is updating cells although it has to be precise. I remember seeing it with Mike Scott, and he showed us really cool creations based on it.
What made you happy this week?
I made a lot of good food! In addition to the hot wings, I made sketchy white chocolate Levain Bakery cookies which were 2 cm thick and 7 inches in diameter — Super heavy and sweet! I’ll also be eating homemade hot pot right after submitting this. I also pulled a five star in a gatcha game which has a .06% chance of happening!
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
If you have an old laptop or old monitor, use it as a second screen! I just started using an 8-year-old laptop as a second screen to look at Piazza, the project page, or code documentation. It didn’t need to be that strong of a laptop as I just needed to look at static pages. If you have an extra monitor from an older computer, you can probably just connect it to a newer laptop with a 5 buck cord. It feels much better than switching windows.
